Great instructional aid. Purchased this one for my grand-daughter's tutor training her for reading inability.
We use it in our van exclusively now. They were able to break the battery cover to where it had to be taped on. I have a 1,2 and 3 year old. They swing it around, scrape the writing pad until it is totally filled in, and my 3 year old is getting into writing the letters. It definitely takes a beating, and requires some supervision among siblings.
My daughter needs handwriting practice (age 6). After a few letters, the lines begin to blend together and the child can't see clearly what they're writing anymore.
:( I returned ours to the store. It's a wonderful idea but it needs some work.
After some use (a few days), the screen begins to misread the child's writing. Which defeats the purpose of teaching them how to precisely write their letters.
I was dissapointed in this toy. But the toy leaves behind a lighted echo of the previous letters your child writes.
Without a "clear" screen free of echoes of previous letters - your child can't see clearly what they are writing.
She plays with it quite often and she has learned a lot from it. There is only one volume and it is so loud. My daughter loves this toy. I just wish it had a volume control.
Cheaper than Amazon price, and worth every cent. They most often take it in the car since it's small and portable enough to play in their lap/carseat.
Highly recommend it. It also got wet once and still works.
My youngest son, carries it by the pen, which has not yet detached from the unit as he carries it and bangs it around on the floor, doors, and everything else. The only thing I can see as a drawback, is that there is NO volume adjustment so there is one volume (which is kind of loud--especially in an enclosed vehicle).Great toy.
I found the toy, originally, on the toy aisle of a grocery store. My two boys are age 3 and 4.5 and they love to play the letter pad everywhere.
They love all the options for different animated games (shapes, letters, and doodling) and since one child is able to identify and write his letters and the other isn't yet, they can teach each other and learn together with guidance and praise.
